Captain - Michael Wyer

Captain - Michael Wyer (British)

Michael was born in the UK but grew up and attended school on the Greek Island of Corfu. His yachting career began before his studies were over, working for a sail-boat charter company during summer vacations - and has continued more or less unbroken since then. He has attended Warsash and Tyneside maritime colleges in the UK and holds an MCA class IV master of yachts up to 3000grt. In recent years he has served as Chief officer on a variety of large charter yachts including M.Y. Esmeralda and M.Y. Illusion. Mike is fluent in Greek and his hobbies include sailboat cruising, especially among the Greek Isles. He also enjoys Scuba diving and is a qualified Padi Divemaster.


First Officer ~ Yann Minder

First Officer ~ Yann Minder (Swiss)

Yann is a qualified commercial yacht master and is very close to achieving his OOW qualification. He has worked in the yachting industry for over six years and has served aboard various types of vessel on both side of the Atlantic. With his previous experience in the hotel industry and fluency in French, combined with a good knowledge of cruising areas and yacht operations, Yann is definitely a great asset to the Gladius team! Yann’s hobbies include sailing, skiing and snowboarding.

Michael holds a UK merchant navy engineering certificate but first went to sea as a marine technician with the RAF. Subsequently and over the past twenty years he has been involved with various motor yachts including substantial time served as captain of vessels less than 24metres. Mike’s enjoys the occasional round of golf when time permits and is also interested in the sport of Judo.


Chef ~ Ian Fleming

Ian is an extremely experienced chef and has, over the years, worked in some of Scotland’s top culinary establishments. Although new to ‘full time’ yachting, he has gained experience working on board the Hebridean Princess as well as assisting the head chef on board M.Y Esmeralda from time to time. Ian has a wide range of knowledge with different types of cooking including modern Scottish, European, Arabic, Oriental etc. Over the years he has won a variety of awards including a Salon Culinaire gold medal. In the year 2000 he was invited to take part in the professional chef’s tournament of Great Britain and Ireland.

Coming from a family of restaurateurs and having been extremely involved in the service industry for the past fourteen years, Brodie is highly skilled in all aspects of her trade. Her yachting experience has included M.Y. Bellissima C, and M.Y Apache as well as the classic sailing yacht ‘Joseph Conrad’. Brodie has studied art in Florence and has a working knowledge of Italian and Spanish. Her hobbies include painting, design and aromatherapy.

2nd Stewardess ~ Melissa Prime (New Zealand)

Melissa worked for many years in the hospitality and service industry before her love of the sea brought her into the yachting world! She is a very experienced stewardess, having served four years onboard the 60m charter yacht, M/Y ESMERALDA, she is now ready for a new adventure with the GLADIUS team and her first Caribbean season! Melissa enjoys travel, outdoor activities as well as design work and reading.


Deck Hand ~ David Duncan

David grew up in Monaco and is bi-lingual in French and English. He has spent the last few years working on a variety of vessels including M.Y. Shalimar, M.Y. Rova D as well as the sailing vessel Tamory. Davids hobbies include sailing, travel and skateboarding.
